Typical Use Defined

Use of birth control pills that is not always consistent and correct. Most cases of pregnancy while on the Pill are due to missing pills or otherwise not following the instructions given with the prescription. Typical use with the Pill has a failure rate of about 5%, whereas perfect use has a failure rate of less than 1%.
